A leading automotive microfiber leather supplier in Jiangsu partnering with European luxury OEMs deployed Haifeng’s double-sided solvent-free microfiber impregnation line. The installation was commissioned to produce premium, ultra-low-odor suede-feel microfiber leather uppers and headliners for high-end electric luxury vehicles.
Previously, the supplier utilized conventional wet-process DMF immersion tanks. Trapped DMF solvent residues caused persistent chemical odors (VDA 270 Grade 3.5), disqualifying the material from German luxury car platforms. Early trials with single-sided solvent-free knife coaters failed because high-viscosity 100% solids resins could not penetrate dense 0.05 Denier sea-island microfiber nonwovens, leaving a dry inner core that delaminated and shed surface nap during abrasion tests with low tear strengths below 65 N.
Haifeng supplied an automated double-sided impregnation and calendering system centered on the HF-SFI160-DB platform. By delivering simultaneous twin-sided resin injection and 150 kN hydraulic roll calendering, the line achieved complete resin saturation through 0.05D fiber bundles without solvents, delivering tear strengths 1.5 times higher than genuine leather (exceeding 125 N) with compliant VDA 270 Grade 2.5 odor performance.
Review point: 150 kN is a total roll/nip force, not pressure or force per unit width; assess roll geometry and loading separately. Penetration into fine fibers, tear comparison and odor results depend on the complete material system. Solvent-free formulation is not a universal zero-emission or exposure claim.

Solutions Delivery
Configuration reported in the supplied brief.
Haifeng engineered an integrated continuous impregnation and curing cell tailored for ultra-dense nonwoven substrates. Needle-punched sea-island microfiber fleece (0.05D, 350 g/m²) is unwound through tension accumulators and pre-dried across thermal cylinders to hold moisture strictly under 0.2%.
Chemical components—ultra-low-viscosity solvent-free polyol and polymeric isocyanates—are conditioned in twin 200 L jacketed tanks under 0.05 kPa vacuum. The HF-SFI160-DB system delivers the reactive mix through twin opposed slotted extrusion dies mounted directly against both fabric faces.
Immediately upon chemical laydown, the wet composite enters a heavy-duty hydraulic calendering nip station. Precision-ground heated steel rolls exert 110 kN of linear compressive force, driving the solvent-free matrix deep into the inter-fiber micro-spaces of the 0.05D nonwoven web to eliminate dry core boundaries. The saturated fabric traverses a continuous thermal oil drum curing array (120°C), completing polymer crosslinking in 3 minutes before rewinding. Following alkali reduction and surface buffing, finished suede leather achieves 125 N tear strength and zero chemical odor.
